The Game
The Buffalo Bills had their second home game of the season against the 0-2 Chargers now 0-3. The Bills and Chargers are at opposite ends of the spectrum, the juggernaut Bills are undefeated, and the Chargers are defeated. The Bills have one glaring issue which is stopping the run. The Chargers have Keaton Mitchell and Omarion Hampton taking carries and dominating the first half. Josh Allen’s first interception was a consequence of a terrible read. What eventually comes is that defensive back coming down on DJ Moore to get the ball. No reason to force a throw either aside from being back an extra 10 yards. Easy pocket protection for Allen not forcing the ball to DJ. In any situation, you have to go short yardage and hope for better play next down.
Despite having one interception before halftime in a scenario forced by the Chargers’ defense Allen’s pocket would collapse leaving Allen forcing another throw downfield to DJ into double coverage leading to an unfortunate turnover. Allen would thankfully recoup after halftime, which can’t be said for Justin Herbert. It seems that Omarion Hampton continues to lose carries to Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal. The Chargers are struggling to gain momentum this season as their odds for the playoffs drop to a low 13%.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Bills have one glaring issue on the field and it isn’t offense, it’s the defense. Our linebackers and secondary. Our D line has shined for the majority of the season continuing to put pressure on the QB. 26 year old Greg Rousseau leads the lead with 6 sacks. Brandon Beane despite bringing in Geno Stone, Cj Gardner Johnson and rookie Jalom Kilgore our defense has lacked picking off the offense and stopping the run. If the Bills figure out the secondary or bring in a Linebacker and improve our run defense the odds of a Super Bowl become more apparent.
